Grayscale PDF
Convert every page of a PDF to grayscale — black, white, and shades of grey — entirely in your browser. Useful for printing on black-and-white printers or reducing colour ink usage. The file is never uploaded. No account, no email.
Frequently asked questions
- Does my file get uploaded?
- No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser, on your own device. The PDF is never transmitted to any server — it even works offline.
- Why would I convert a PDF to grayscale?
- Printing a colour PDF on a black-and-white printer can produce poor results — some colours render as the same shade of grey. Converting to grayscale first ensures the visual hierarchy prints as intended and saves colour ink on monochrome documents.
- Will the text still be readable?
- Yes. The tool renders every page as a high-resolution image in grayscale, so all text and graphics remain fully readable. Note that the output is an image-based PDF — the text will not be selectable or searchable.
- What happens to colours that look similar in grayscale?
- The conversion uses the standard luminance formula, so colours that differ in hue but are equally bright (e.g. red and green) may appear as the same shade of grey. This is an inherent property of all grayscale conversions, not a limitation of this tool.
