Frequently asked questions

Is my file uploaded to a server?
No. AVIF to PDF conversion runs entirely in your browser. The file never leaves your device. Your browser decodes the AVIF image using its built-in AVIF decoder and builds the PDF locally using PDF generation code running in the page.
What is AVIF?
AVIF (AV1 Image File Format) is a modern image format developed by the Alliance for Open Media. It offers significantly better compression than JPEG and WebP while maintaining high quality. YouTube, Netflix, and Cloudflare use AVIF for web images. Design tools like Figma and Canva can export in AVIF. Web browsers have supported AVIF since 2021 (Chrome 85, Firefox 113, Safari 16).
What if the conversion doesn't work in my browser?
AVIF decoding requires a browser that supports the AVIF format natively: Chrome 85 or later, Firefox 113 or later, or Safari 16 or later. Older browsers do not have an AVIF decoder built in and cannot complete the conversion. Updating your browser to the latest version will resolve this.
What size will the output PDF be?
The PDF is sized to A4 by default. The AVIF image is scaled to fill the A4 page proportionally — it is not stretched or distorted. The image quality in the PDF matches the original AVIF.
